Volunteer Opportunities

Tutors & Classroom Helpers

Come help us make a difference in the lives of 9th graders at West High School.  We are currently looking for volunteers to commit to one specific 1.5-2 hour slot per week for a period of 9 weeks this spring.  We are tutoring in two algebra classes Monday through Friday, with the morning class being approximately 9:15-11:00, and the afternoon class being approximately 11:30-1:15.  For instance, you may commit to the morning class on Mondays for 9 weeks, or the Friday afternoon class for 9 weeks.  The 9 week commitment is ideal, but we will also consider special situations.

Although algebra knowledge and skills is a definite bonus, along with any teaching or tutoring experience,  volunteers with an ability to relate to 15-16 year olds, and a desire to make a difference is the biggest part.  Building relationships with these young people is key, and with that, the volunteers are able to help keep the students on task.

An additional opportunity exists with our Thursday after-school program, taking place from 1:45-3:00 every Thursday.  During this time, we have pizza and soft drinks, some music, and the volunteers help students with any homework or classwork in any subject they want to work on.  Again, math is always a big one that students struggle with, but any experience in other subjects such as earth science, languages, geography, history, and english is great.

Board Opportunities

We are looking for new board members to take our board to the next level.  CYC has been very successful over the last 3 years, and is poised to take on some citywide and statewide projects to have a significant impact on the dropout issue.  We are specifically interested in individuals that are interested in donating time and energy in the areas of fundraising, event coordination and individual donor campaign coordination.  In addition to the resource development focus, we are also looking for individuals with expertise in legal and financial matters.  Please view our board job description.

Colfax Marathon - Charity Partner Program

Charity Partner Goal We are shooting to have 100 runners raising money so that CYC will clear a net amount of at least $20K for the event.  Each runner is asked to raise or give a minimum of $250 if running individually or $200 if running a leg within a relay team.  Race registration and registration fees are the sole responsibility of the runners, so register early so you can secure your place in the race.  CYC will be available to help with organizing relay teams if needed.
How to Participate We will accept runners participating in any part of the Colorado Colfax Marathon, including the full marathon, half marathon or relay teams. We encourage runners to ACT EARLY. Register for the race now and contact us today to become a CYC Marathon Team Member. Bring your contributions ($250 for individual runners or $200 for relay team members) to the Marathon Expo on May 16 and 17, or send the money into CYC before then.  CYC will have a table at the Expo to greet you, give you a CYC race T-shirt, and accept your contribution.
Special Features Race T-shirt and Race Day Celebration!  Each runner will receive a one-of-a-kind CYC race t-shirt for being a CYC Marathon Team Member.  On race day, a CYC tent will be available for an after-race event that will include water, drinks, food, music and celebration of our joint success. Staff members will be present so you can learn more about our youth program.
