| About Us
The program philosophy of Colorado Youth for a change revolves around giving youth opportunities for greater voice, choice and access in their education. CYC staff work with youth on a case by case basis to help them become advocates for their own educationsVoice- If we are serious about high school reform, we need to seek out the voices of those so disconnected from the system that they have decided to leave it at their own detriment. CYC brings out-of-school youth together to give voice to their concerns and interests, and to help them create their own educational second chances, along with impacting the effectiveness of the total school system.
Choice- There is greater attention on school choice at the current time, but not so much from the perspective of high school students, and certainly not from the viewpoint of out-of-school youth. We help out-of-school youth regain their sense of choice and self-efficacy, and empower them to make sound choices upon returning to school.
Access- It is challenging for out-of-school youth to access a system that appears so disenfranchising to them. We build bridges to ease the transition back to school, and help youth access the system in a manner which ensures their success. Through academic tutoring, support groups and mentoring relationships, we provide youth with tangible skills to create their educational futures.
