New School Creation

CYC helps to create new schools designed specifically for teens re-entering high school or those on the verge of dropping out. These youth often face additional barriers that can interfere with education: pregnancy, parenting, homelessness, or full-time employment.

CYC evaluates the continuum of alternative options that a school district currently has in place and helps with the creation of new options in partnership with the district to serve those students struggling in traditional schools. In the past six years the agency has helped to start four alternative educational programs, including Futures Academy in Aurora which combines an intensive academic program with post-secondary transition services for 150 youth annually who are significantly behind in credits for their age.
