Dropout Outreach & Recovery Program

CYC Educational Outreach Specialists (six in Denver Public Schools, four in Aurora Public Schools and one in Boulder Valley Schools) reach out to out-of-school youth to engage them in a process of returning to school.  Outreach workers get referrals directly from a list of dropouts generated by the school districts each year, community organizations, schools personnel, parents and youth themselves.  Through our contacts with dropouts, we find that a large percentage of them want to re-engage their education, but don't necessarily know where and how to return to school.  Outreach specialists build a positive encouraging relationship with out-of-school youth, assess their motivation to return to school, work to eliminate barriers to restart their education, and help youth to find an appropriate fit for a school.
